Students Beyond Boundaries Home

This project, supported by a $450,000 grant from Learn and Serve America over three years, is designed to encourage college students to use social media tools such as Facebook, Ning, Blogger, Flickr, YouTube, Wet Paint, and Twitter to support service-learning projects in their communities.  Students will use social media to collaborate with community partners to assess needs and develop service-learning projects to meet those needs while supporting students' educational goals. Specifically, students will use social media to

  • plan and implement projects in close partnership with community partners;
  • recruit friends and fellow students to participate;
  • reflect on the impact of the projects on the community and the student; and
  • document the results of the projects.

Recognized student organizations and faculty members teaching service-learning courses at Midwest Consortium member institutions are eligible to apply. Click here or on the Apply tab, above, for more details about eligibility, deadlines, and developing your project.
