Corporation For National & Community Service The Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS) is a government agency that presides over Learn and Serve America, AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps*VISTA, and Senior Corps. Through Learn and Serve America, funds were generously provided to the Midwest Consortium and South Dakota State University for the purpose of the Students Beyond Boundaries Project.
Midwest Consortium/SDSU The Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education was formed in 2003 and currently comprises 27 universities and colleges (member institutions) scattered throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and Western Iowa. South Dakota State University (SDSU), a member institution, is partnering with the Consortium to implement the Students Beyond Boundaries initiative. SDSU and the Consortium will administer the total funds requested: $450,000, 72% of which will be given out in subgrants to students and community partners.
ServeNebraska - the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission ServeNebraska provides support for AmeriCorps and Citizen Corps programs throughout the state of Nebraska. The Commission, along with the Nebraska InterCorps Council (a group of national service representatives), works to assist the Midwest Consortium through their network of community organizations. ServeNebraska's involvement with Students Beyond Boundaries is to provide support for student-led projects by engaging AmeriCorps members and their host site community agencies. The Commission will also work to inspire and motivate college students in Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota to develop and implement service partnerships and projects through social media. Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is the primary student organization partner for the Students Beyond Boundaries initiative. There are 16 chapters within the Consortium institutions that partner with business and community organizations to develop community outreach projects. SIFE's purpose is to provide training for students and faculty interested in pursuing a Students Beyond Boundaries grant.
